2 Minute Makeup Because 5 Is Just Too Long

Funny Fashionable Girl.

No more putting on makeup like you’re seven. It’s time for a quick and easy, more natural look.

“It would really suck to be a guy because then I wouldn’t be able to do all the things that I love like my hair and makeup.”  I looked up when I heard those words come out of the mouth of my friend’s sister and thought, “Huh, I was just thinking how great it would be to be a guy because I wouldn’t have to worry about makeup.” My idea of “wearing makeup” for the better part of 20 years involved a 30 second process of eyeliner and occasionally, if I was feeling up to it, mascara. A lot of it had to do with my mother’s belief that girls shouldn’t wear makeup until they go to college. She never taught me how to properly apply makeup to avoid looking like Chuckles the Clown so I stuck to what was easiest, drawing on my eyelids with a pencil.  Luckily, I was blessed with a fairly even olive complexion so I went through college never really knowing the purpose of foundation.

It wasn’t until after college and the wedding invitations started flowing in that I decided it was time to make a trip to the department store makeup counters to get some advice. So here it is, my “5 Minutes is Too Long” no fuss makeup routine. Trust me, it’ll be a lifesaver on those mornings when you hit snooze one too many times and are scrambling to get out the door while still looking somewhat presentable. It’s a fail-proof, no muss, no fuss makeup routine that’s perfect for everyone.

Essentials:

1.    Tinted moisturizer or BB cream                                                                                                                                                  It was a good thing that I really didn’t need foundation because I wasn’t a fan. I hated how it would get on my hands if I had to rub my face for any reason. Plus, even the ones that claimed to be really “light and sheer” felt heavy. A BB cream or tinted moisturizer is my perfect solution. It’s an all-in-one. It provides the SPF that everyone should wear and offers just the right amount of coverage to even out the skin tone.

2.    Mascara
close up view of a beautiful female faceDon’t let your eyes get lost behind your glasses. Mascara gives your eyes that instant definition without making it seem like you’re about to hit the town for a night out. It highlights your eyes without eyeliner or eye shadow, and gives you a very put together look. If you have light colored brows and lashes, you know the importance of mascara, but even those with dark lashes will see a significant difference with just a slight application.

– Tip: Waterproof mascara might be a pain to take off but it’s very handy if your eyes water constantly like mine do or if you wear glasses. Mascara smudge on your lenses is not a good look.

Lips3.    Lip balm/chap stick/lip gloss
There’s nothing worse than talking to someone with really chapped lips. You stop listening to what they’re saying and instead can only focus on that little detail. Avoid awkwardness by always keeping some lip balm or chap stick on you. A lot of them even have a tint so it can seem like you’re wearing lipstick when you’re really not.

With an increasing number of celebrities and models going au naturel for photo shoots, the “less is more” trend is really taking off. In fact, the “no makeup” makeup look is in high demand. This quick three-step makeup routine will keep your skin looking younger longer while creating the ultimate “no makeup” makeup look. You can now give yourself those extra few minutes of sleep in the morning without looking like you did. Functional. Fashionable. Fabulous.
